Children's Department

Sunday School 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

LifeWay’s Family Life Sunday School curriculum is used in our Children’s Department. Our creative, loving teachers provide a variety of methods for children to learn God’s Word. Bibles are available in each classroom for the children and we encourage them to explore the Bible through hands–on activities. Our classrooms provide an atmosphere of Christian fellowship, encouragement, growth and wisdom.

All the Children’s classrooms are located on the 3rd floor in the Educational wing.

PARENT PICK-UP AND DROP OFF PROCEDURE

Parents with children in 1st – 3rd grades are to pick up and drop off their children to /from their specific classrooms personally. There will be a sign in/sign out sheet in each of these classrooms. The child is signed in when his or her name is written on the list. When picking up your child, please sign your name next to the child’s. Parents with children in grades 4 and 5 may allow their children to arrive and depart classes unattended only after specific arrangements have been made with that child’s teacher(s).

New Christian Class

Have you made that most important decision by accepting Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?  Join us for the Children’s New Christian Class offered twice a year.  You will have the opportunity to explore and journal your thoughts and feelings and create a lasting memory using the My Good News Journal book.  Years from now you’ll be able to look at your journal and experience those memories of when you became a Christian! I’m a Christian Now will be the curriculum used to explore and educate you on the life changing decision that you have recently made, accepting Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.

Wednesday Nights
SLAMM Students Learning About Missions and Music 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

So you say you’ve been in school all day?  SLAMM into Wednesday nights as we explore Bible Drills, Skills and Thrills.  The children, through the guidance of their teachers, will go beyond Bible stories, and delve into a deeper knowledge of the Bible.  Our Children’s Choir also rehearses on Wednesday nights.  During this time, children have the opportunities to participate in dramas, musicals, Orff instruments, handbells, and prepare for Worship participation.  Finally, there’s nothing like letting off steam from the day by participating in monitored recreation in the Christian Life Center, building team skills and just having some good old fashioned fun through exercise.

  • February
    • Daddy/Daughter Banquet: A special evening for celebrating a special, God given relationship, This banquet will offer the opportunity for daddies and daughters to have dinner together, talk with each other and play games, make crafts.  Held in the Fellowship Hall, you don't want to miss this photo opportunity of a lifetime!
  • March

    • Easter Egg Hunt:  Meet the Easter Bunny, hunt for eggs and hear of the Resurrection of Christ!  Held at Reid's orchard, many family activities are planned including a springtime scavenger hunt, and Easter egg hunt, photos with the Easter Bunny and a Devotional.  This is always a fun morning at Reid's Orchard!
    • Bible Drill Competitions:  How well do you know the Bible?  These 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will amaze you with their knowledge.  With six months of classroom preparation and studying at home, the competitions are on the Church, regional and state levels.  The competitors will display their knowledge of memory Scripture verses, key passages, Books of the Bible and all while being timed.  By the way, can you find the Book of Haggai in 10 seconds, and then name the Book before and after it?      READY?  GO!
  • May
    • BBQ Festival Family Pavilion: Bounce houses, face painting, pony and horse rides, petting zoo and crafts; we're telling you it's fun... AND IT'S FREE! Come play in the Family Pavilion, meet new friends and old friends, and know that First Baptist Church welcomes YOU!!!
    • Mother/Son Banquet: A special evening for celebrating a special, God given relationship, This banquet will offer the opportunity for mommas and their "boys" to have dinner together, talk with each other and play games, make crafts. Held in the Fellowship Hall, you don't want to miss this photo opportunity of a lifetime!
  • June
    • Vacation Bible School: Join us for a week of learning about Jesus and what a Friend He can be to you. The mornings include Bible Study, music, crafts, recreation, missions, and snack. It's a time for the church to get together in the summertime and celebrate Jesus!
    • Adventure Camp: Three days to experience a variety of activities. This camp is for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Sign up to explore caves, go to Amusement parks, ride horses, camp out, hike, swim, bowl, experience laser tag, golf, and all while enjoying Christian fellowship. Are you up for an adventure???
    • Fun in the Sun trip to Burdette Water Park: This summer day trip is for children entering grades 1, 2, and 3. You and your parents can join us for a fun day in Evansville swimming, wading and going down waterslide. Pack your lunch, a towel and some sunscreen and you can even bring you parents.
  • July
    • CentriKid: An annual week long summer camp, kids can travel with other 4th and 5th graders to spend the week on a college or university campus in Kentucky, for a week of Scripture, Praise and Worship, sports, Christian Fellowship and much, much more!
    • Kidz Kamp: Another summer fun activity for children entering grades 1, 2, and 3. Take short, local, day trips to the spray park, the movies, bowling, putt putt and other locations. A half day of adventure, lunch, Scripture, missions, this camp provides an opportunity for entering First graders to meet children and make friends in their new Children's Department.
    • Family trip to Holiday World: Need we say more??? Pack up the family and let's go!
  • August
    • Sunday School Promotion:  Say farewell to one grade level and hello to the next.  Whether you are changing grades within the Children's Department, entering the Children's Department from Kindergarten, or moving on to Middle School in the Youth Department, celebrate that promotion in Sunday School with your friends, family and teachers.
    • Back to School Bash:  Can you believe it? You’re another grade older, summer is over, and a new exciting year of SLAMM has been planned for you. We’re welcoming our incoming 1st graders and have watched our 5th graders move on to the Youth program. So, let’s kick off the new school year with fellowship and fun. Inflatables, dunking booth, popcorn and drinks, & face art. Make sure you register for SLAMM and Mission Friends this night to be eligible for door prizes.

    • Fall Festival/Trunk of Treats:  Celebrate the change in season that God provides.  Celebrate the weather He creates, and the colors on His trees.  A carnival type setting, children can win prizes and candy, toss beanbags, throw footballs, bob for apples, eat popcorn and have your face painted.  There may even be a parking lot full of open car trunks full of candy for your treat bag!
  • November
    • Family Chili Cookout @ Reid’s Orchard:  Join us with a pot of your favorite chili (to be combined with all others), blankets, flashlights and guests! Activities will include hotdog roasting, s’mores, exploring the corn maze, hay rides, magic carpet rides, Praise and Worship music and a devotional. Dress warm!!!
  • December
    • Christmas Party/Parent’s Night Out: Hey kids, let your parent’s know about this one!!!! You’ll be fed, educated, entertained, ‘exercised’ and creatively challenged…all while your parents are provided a breather from the rush of the season. Dinner provided, videos, skating, crafts, games, free play and snacks provided for the low cost of $5 per child. Call 683-3505 to register.
