Pastor's Greeting

Welcome to the website of First Baptist Church Owensboro. I have had the privilege of being the Pastor since January 2006.
MY DESIRE
My passion for First Baptist Church is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ. We accomplish that by worshipping the Lord in Spirit and truth, by consistently studying the Word of God, by being accountable to others for spiritual growth, by learning to develop a powerful prayer life, etc. I realize the importance of a healthy church and that does not simply mean a church growing numerically. My personal desire is for everyone to be a member of our First Baptist family. However, I realize a greater goal for our people is to be spiritually healthy. When a church (family) is healthy it will grow both spiritually and numerically. I am convinced FBC is a place where preschoolers, children, students, singles, young marrieds, adults, and senior adults can grow spiritually and become healthy. The future is bright at FBC and I can’t wait to see what the Lord will do next. I hope you enjoy your visit to our Church via the web and would like to invite you to be with us in person. You will see the meeting times for worship and Bible study on our website. I hope to see you soon.
MY PILGRIMAGE
I grew up in Poplarville Mississippi, a small town 70 miles north of New Orleans Louisiana. I attended college at William Carey College in Hattiesburg Mississippi, a Southern Baptist school (now named William Carey University). I received my theological education at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and while there served as Minister of Youth for two churches; First Baptist Church of Purvis, Mississippi, and First Baptist Church of Lafayette Louisiana which after graduation became full time. In 1989 I became Minister of Education at First Baptist Church Newton Mississippi. I left Newton to pastor First Baptist Church of Petal Mississippi for almost eight years. I then moved to Nashville to work in the Pastoral Ministries department of LifeWay Christian Resources. Following my experience at LifeWay I was called to Owensboro and believe with all my heart it was God’s will.
One of the most significant events that took place while in Newton was my marriage to Leigh Ann Spawn from Rockwall Texas in June of 1990. We have since been blessed with two daughters; Anna Leigh born in 1997 and Katherine Martha born in 2000. We feel very blessed to be in Owensboro and thank God daily for His blessings.
Thanks again for your interest in visiting us on the World Wide Web. Come back anytime and may God bless you is our prayer.
