Preschool Ministry Updates

Dear First Baptist family,

As you know our Preschool Director, Alisha Williams, has resigned and her last Sunday was August 6th. We want to express our appreciation to Alisha for her ministry to our children and parents. We will have a reception for her on August 20th between 9 and 10 in the Preschool area.

We have been praying and seeking God’s will for this ministry as we move toward the future. Bob Farmer and I have met with the Preschool Committee as well as the Personnel Committee concerning future leadership. We realize how important the Preschool ministry is to our church. Our prayer is that we will provide a safe, welcoming, and stable ministry where our preschool children can experience and learn about Jesus Christ. We also understand that this ministry is as much to parents as it is to their children.

This Sunday, Ginger Mayfield, will begin as our new Preschool Director. Ginger has been a member of our church for fifteen years. She and her husband Marty have two children, Sydnee eight years old and Seth five years old. She is excited and believes God has led her to working in this area. Ginger is familiar with many of you and has been very active in our church. However, she will need your prayers and support. This may well be the most difficult position in any church.

The Preschool, at the present time, has three paid part-time workers but utilizes mostly volunteers from our own congregation. One of the greatest needs is for more members to volunteer in the Preschool Ministry. Our volunteers are on a rotating schedule for the worship services, but we need more. We expect the parents of our children to volunteer in that rotation. Some of the volunteers are not parents of preschoolers, and we are grateful for their help. We have said it many times: the more volunteers we have, the less time they will be needed. Everyone is important, and our children deserve to be given the best care. We need helpers in the 2, 3, and 4-year-old classes immediately! If you can help, please let Ginger know this Sunday.

To all of you who have given your time to this ministry, I say thanks. We appreciate you! The future is bright and we have more preschool children coming soon. Let’s work together and help First Baptist Owensboro provide the best ministry for our children!

By His Grace,
Paul Strahan
