In past years, the Christian Life Center (CLC) hosted Upward Basketball, a basketball league for youth from kindergarten to middle school. The program is a uniquely designed sports experience that develops the total athlete mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. It also creates individuals of strong character, confidence, and faith. Due to a previous lack of engagement by FBC and its members, FBC terminated its association with Upward Basketball several years ago and other area churches absorbed additional players at their locations. This time around, First Baptist will host the kindergarten Upward program only.
Beginning on January 6th, kindergarten boys and girls will play on Saturday mornings through the end of February in the CLC. In recent years—while being hosted at another church in town—approximately 80–120 kindergarteners and their families were ministered to each season through Upward. FBC is uniquely positioned as a congregation to engage young families as there are currently many young families in our church. However, conducting a fun and well-organized sports ministry—while sharing the gospel and “making disciples”—will require volunteers from all age groups (youth to seniors). Learn more about these volunteer opportunities on pages four and five of November’s magazine. Contact Dave Roberts at [email protected] or 270-683-3505 to volunteer.
