Adult Studies
Wednesday nights offer an opportunity to gather with multiple generations of adults to study the Bible together. We will typically walk through a variety of study approaches throughout the semesters. Sometimes we will study through a book of the Bible and at other times we will take 6-8 weeks to focus on a particular area of study. We will have studies from August through May and then take the summer off on Wednesday evenings. Please check the EVENTS pages to find out what the newest study will cover.
Prayer
Monthly Prayer Meeting
Gathering as a church family to pray together is both a responsibility and privilege commanded by the Lord. FBC gathers one Sunday night a month, seeking to devote ourselves in “one accord” (Acts 1:14) to prayer for items within our church and beyond. This time together involves Scripture reading, singing, testimonies, guided prayer, and prayer together for specific requests. Please check out the Events page for the date, time, and location of our next prayer gathering.
Anna Prayer Group
God desires for His people to seek His presence. In Luke 2, Anna was continually pursuing the Lord in prayer. This group longs to do the same. Join other women from FBC as Cheryl Sansom leads the gathering to pray for God’s presence and will for the church and beyond. Gatherings are 8:15-9:30am on the 2nd and 4th Mondays in the Parlor located in the REC.
Seekers Prayer Group
Matthew 7:7 reads “Ask, and it will be given to you, Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.” This verse serves as the foundation for a group of ladies at FBC known as the Seekers Prayer Group. They gather to pray for one another, our church, our community, our state, our nation, and our world. Each session begins with a short devotional and then prayer requests and praises are shared that have occurred since the last meeting. After a time of sharing, time is spent in prayer with one another lifting requests to the Lord. The meeting is in an informal setting in the home of one of our members on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Contact the church office for more information and to get in contact with one of the leaders (Lee Waldroup/Betsy Russell).
Pastor’s Prayer Partners
This prayer ministry team is made up of men and women committed to pray for First Baptist Church, the ministries of the church, and the pastoral staff. Pastor’s Prayer Partners select Sunday morning dates on which they are available to pray. These partners pray prior to the first Sunday morning worship service. The prayer time is done in their homes for at least 30 minutes. A monthly prayer guide is provided which contains requests from the pastoral staff. All are welcome to join this vital ministry team. Please contact the church for more information and to get in contact with the leaders: (for men) Rex Whiteman or (for women) Jean Byrd Smith.
Early Risers
This men’s fellowship group meets each Tuesday morning from 6-7AM, during which time they enjoy breakfast, prayer, and Bible study. A contribution of $5.00 per attendee per week is requested. They meet in the church fellowship hall and enter from the back parking lot using the door near the kitchen. The group typically walks through a book of the Bible for their study. All men are welcomed and encouraged to join in this great time of spiritual and physical nourishment.
Jo Nelson Bible Study
This women’s group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 10-11AM in the West Chapel. It is a time of Bible Study and a time to be updated on the work of the missionaries from First Baptist. Four ladies rotate by month to teach a Bible study lesson or to discuss a Bible character. It is also a time of Christian fellowship for the ladies. A voluntary offering is accepted each month for Pure Water Pure Love, WMU’s Compassion Ministry. The offering works to supply missionaries with water filters, provide the people they serve with wells that offer clean water, and supply mission teams with water filters for use on short-term mission trips. (First Baptist Missionaries have access to the filters.)
