First Baptist Owensboro loves families! We desire to see marriages refreshed, renewed, and thriving under the lordship of Christ. We also desire to see parents pointing their children to Jesus, children pursuing Jesus from an early age, parents discipling their teenagers, and students maturing in the understanding and practice of their faith.
For six Sunday nights (beginning at 5pm) in October/November, and six more in February/March, we focus on the health and growth of the family, centered on biblical wisdom as the basis for our instruction and practice. The first semester offers an opportunity for couples to focus on their marriage. The second semester offers an opportunity for parents to focus on the role they play in the lives of their children. In addition, each of the twelve Sunday nights offers a place for children and students of all ages to engage God’s Word. At the end of each session, we provide a meal for the family, hoping to strengthen relationships between the participants as well as practically helping families have a meal before heading home on a Sunday night to get ready for the week ahead.
These sessions are intended to deepen First Baptist Church’s understanding of God’s explicit teaching on the family. They are also open to the community, knowing that couples and parents beyond FBC desire to grow in their marriages and parenting. Please see the opportunities below and plan on joining us!

6 Sessions on Discovering a Deeper Intimacy with God Through Your Marriage
Your marriage is much more than a union between you and your spouse. It is a spiritual discipline ideally suited to help you know God more fully and intimately. Sacred Marriage shifts the focus from marital enrichment to spiritual enrichment in ways that can help you love your mate more. Whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God.
Everything about your marriage—everything from the history you and your spouse create, to the love you share, to the forgiveness you both offer and seek by turn—is filled with the capacity to help you grow in Christ’s character. This six-session, small group DVD curriculum will equip you to love God more passionately, reflect the nature of his Son more precisely, and fulfill God’s overarching purpose for your marriage.
Couples pay $20 for participant guides.

6 Sessions on How Raising Children Shapes Our Souls
Parenting a child is an in-depth course on spiritual formation, expressly designed by God to shape your soul in ways you cannot imagine. What if one of God’s primary intentions for you as a parent isn’t about successfully raising perfect children, but about you becoming more holy? Sacred Parenting helps you look at parenting from a different perspective.
In this six-session video group study, designed for use with the Sacred Parenting Participant’s Guide, award-winning author Gary Thomas offers a roadmap to spiritual growth through the children that God has given you to parent. Sacred Parenting will help you and your group learn how God can transform dirty diapers, a toddler’s tantrums, and a teenager’s silence in order to transform you into a person who reflects the image of Christ.
Participants pay $10 per person for participant guides.
Registration for Sacred Parenting (Feb/Mar 2025): Available in January
